AIRSTREAM INTERSTATE WINDSHIELD SUN SHADE

Our 2007 Airstream Interstate came with a standard front privacy curtain, but that has limited utility for us for a number of reasons:
  1. It does little to prevent solar heating, which is a Very Big Deal for those of us who live in the subtropics.
  2. It doesn't protect the dash from the type of ultraviolet light degradation that can happen over time.
  3. We may eventually add the innovative custom folding bed that has been designed to fit across the front seats of the Mercedes Sprinter, at which point the curtain would become useless because it would hang down onto the center of the bed.
For these reasons, we decided to acquire a conventional windshield sun shade.
Do you see that bright sunlight glaring off the windshield of the very tall vehicle in this parking lot?  That's the sun shade.
Of course, the Interstate's windshield is much larger than that of pretty much any passenger vehicle, and so this item could not be bought locally.  We had to order it from the internet.
Very often when people ask me what brand of this or that I bought, my reply is "Amazon".  That's a bit of an oversimplification, of course.  One of the reasons I blog is so that I can keep all these details organized, for myself as well as other folks in similar situations.

Here is a close up of the label.
Very important:  If you shop for one of these things, make sure you match the product spec to your Sprinter year, not your Airstream year.  In our case, we have a 2007 Airstream Interstate - but it is built on a 2006 Mercedes Sprinter (T1N).  Reviewers on Amazon have complained about different Sprinter model years having slightly different windshield configurations, so the sun shades are not perfectly interchangeable among different vehicles.

We don't yet know how this brand will stand up over time, but it does fit the windshield of our vehicle quite well.
The Airstream Interstate has a cavernous interior. Anything that helps to keep it cool is a blessing.
